pharmachologic effect

This drug belongs to the group of biguanides. It is a hypoglycemic drug that is intended for oral administration.

The active substance contributes to the inhibition of gluconeogenesis, which occurs in the liver cells. Glucose absorption from the digestive tract organs is reduced, and its utilization in peripheral tissues is only enhanced. Insulin sensitivity increases.

Metphogamma belongs to the biguanide group. It is a hypoglycemic drug that is intended for oral administration.

As a result of the use of tablets, the level of triglycerides and lipoproteins decreases. At the same time, body weight becomes less and remains at a normal level for a long time. The drug inhibits the action of plasminogen activator inhibitor, which contributes to a pronounced fibrinolytic effect of the drug.

Pharmacokinetics

Metformin is absorbed from the digestive tract in a short time. Bioavailability and ability to bind to blood proteins is low. The greatest number of drugs in the blood plasma is observed after a couple of hours. The drug tends to accumulate in the muscle tissue, liver, salivary glands and kidneys. Excretion is carried out using renal filtration, unchanged. The half-life is 3 hours.

With diabetes

Dose set individually, taking into account the indicator of blood sugar. Start with 1-2 tablets per day. If this treatment does not give the desired therapeutic effect, the dosage can be gradually increased. Maintenance dose - 2-3 tablets per day, but not more than 4 pieces.

The active substance quickly penetrates into breast milk, which can adversely affect the health of the child. Therefore, for the period of drug therapy is better to refuse breastfeeding.

special instructions

During treatment, you need to monitor the work of the kidneys and blood glucose indicators. When symptoms of myalgia occur, determine the amount of lactate in the plasma.

Appointment to children

Use in violation of kidney function

Prescription medication will depend on creatinine clearance. If it is too high, then we can talk about severe renal failure. In this case, the use of metformin is prohibited.

When these signs appear, the drug is immediately stopped, the patient is hospitalized in the hospital. The drug is removed from the body by hemodialysis.

Interaction with other drugs

When used simultaneously with many sulfonylurea derivatives, insulin, MAO and ACE inhibitors, Cyclophosphamide, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, clofibrate derivatives, tetracyclines and individual beta-adrenoblockers, the hypoglycemic effect of metformin is enhanced.

Glucocorticosteroids, sympathomimetics, epinephrine, glucagon, many OK, thyroid hormones, diuretics, and nicotinic acid derivatives lead to a decrease in the hypoglycemic effect of the drug.

Cimetidine slows down the absorption of metformin, which often leads to the development of lactic acidosis. The active substance reduces the effect of the use of anticoagulants, mainly coumarin derivatives.

Nifedipine increases absorption, but slows down the elimination of the active substance from the body. Digoxin, morphine, quinine, Ranitidine and Vancomycin, which are secreted mainly in the tubules, with prolonged therapy increases the time of elimination of the drug.

Compatibility with alcohol

Taking pills can not be combined with alcoholic beverages, because co-administration with ethanol contributes to the development of lactic acidosis.

Taking tablets Metfogamma can not be combined with alcoholic beverages, because co-administration with ethanol contributes to the development of lactic acidosis.
